Dr. S. G. Gupta

Principal Scientist (Hort.)

Born on 2nd May 1948, and obtained his post-graduation and doctorate degree in Horticulture from Kanpur University, Kanpur (U.P.) in the year 1970 and 1975 respectively. He joined Agricultural Research Services in the year 1976 and presently working as Principal Scientist (Hort.) at National Research Centre for Citrus, Nagpur, Maharashtra.
After a very brief period as lecturer in Government Degree College Jakhini, Varanasi (U.P.) he joined as ICAR Research Complex for NEH region Shillong as Scientist and served the region in different capacity more than 23 years by way of actively engaged in various research programs for training to different fruit crops as well as rhizomatous crops and made a significant contribution in the field of Horticulture in general and citrus in particular.

Received Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Award for out standing contribution in the field of Agriculture Research in tribal area for developing technology for rejuvenation of decline citrus orchards in the region. Apart from this, his contribution during the long period of his stay NEH region has come out certain recommendation like promising verities of guava, peach and plum, high yielding with low fiber containing verities of ginger and high yielding best quality verity of turmeric.

Equally contributed in Transfer of Technology on Citrus in NEH region and organized on and off campus training program under Technology Mission (MM-1) for the benefits to the officers and gross root level workers engaged in the development of Horticulture in different states of north eastern region.

Credited with 75 research paper, 14 popular articles, 17 abstracts, 3 research and technical bulletin, 2 book chapter, and 3 extension folder. He is a life member of Scientific Societies like Horticultural Society of India, Indian Society of Citriculture and Indian Society of Hill Farming.
